*Barack Obama shared a video tribute to his mother-in-law, Marian Robinson, just days before the Obama Presidential Center opens its doors in Chicago. He posted the clip on social media, showing Michelle Obama in an outfit that nodded to her mother’s style.
“To everyone who helped bring the Obama Presidential Center to life, thank you. Michelle and I are so grateful for all your dedication and hard work over the years,” Obama wrote. “I got a little teary-eyed tonight thinking about my mother-in-law, Marian Robinson.”
“She made a home for Michelle and Craig here on the South Side of Chicago, not with a lot, but with a lot of love and hope and perspective and wisdom, and her husband Fraser Robinson, who got up every day and went down right next to Navy Pier, working in the water reclamation district,” Obama added. “He showed what it means to work hard and to put family first.”
The Obama Foundation will host the center’s official dedication on Thursday. Viewers can watch the ceremony starting at 11 a.m. Central time through Obama.org and the Obama Foundation’s social channels.

A star-studded roster is set to take the stage at the June 18 opening event. The celebration kicks off festivities ahead of the South Side campus officially opening to the public on June 19. Performers expected to appear include Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, and John Legend. The bill also features Eddie Vedder, Marc Anthony, Common, Tems, Marsai Martin, The Roots, and U2 members Bono and The Edge.
Obama Foundation CEO Valerie Jarrett described the goal behind the celebration. “The Grand Opening Ceremony will reflect a spirit of inspiration and joy, with a big boost from the performers who are sharing their talent with us,” she said. “We hope to inspire people everywhere to believe in their power to bring change home.”
