*Sources reveal tension within the NFL after plans for a potential Taylor Swift halftime show reportedly never moved beyond casual conversation.
As Reality Tea reports, an insider cited in Rob Shuter’s Substack report said, “They look like amateurs.” The update claims Jay-Z never delivered a formal invitation to Swift, despite weeks of speculation.
Inside sources indicated that NFL executives assumed Swift had been officially offered the gig. “Everyone inside the NFL thought Taylor was officially offered the gig,” one top insider said. “But there was never a real offer — just some light chatter.” Another source added, “Jay Z had Bad Bunny in mind all along,” suggesting the Swift discussion was never serious.
While communications with Swift’s team were reportedly cordial, the league feels misled. “He was polite with Taylor’s team but never serious,” the report states.
Swift addressed these rumors on “The Tonight Show” with Jimmy Fallon, denying that disputes over performance footage ownership influenced her decision to turn down the halftime show. “Here’s the thing,” Swift said, according to Complex. “Jay-Z has always been very good to me. Our teams are very close. They sometimes will call and ask how I feel about it — and that’s not an official offer or a conference-room conversation. We’re always able to tell him the truth, which is that I am in love with a guy who does that sport on that actual field.”
Referring to fiancé Travis Kelce, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, Swift described her focus during the football season. “That is violent chess. That is gladiators without swords. That is dangerous. The whole season I am locked in on what that man is doing on the field. Can you imagine if he’s out there every single week putting his life on the line, doing this very dangerous, very high-pressure, high-intensity sport, and I’m like, ‘I wonder what my choreo should be. I think we should do two verses of ‘Shake It Off’ into ‘Blank Space’ into ‘Cruel Summer’ would be great.’”
Swift clarified that her decision was not related to Kelce. “This has nothing to do with Travis—he would love for me to do it. I’m just too locked in.” Previous reports indicate the deal with the NFL collapsed over disputes regarding ownership and compensation. “Taylor knows her worth. She knows the kind of ratings she brings, the global attention she commands,” an insider told Shuter, underscoring her focus on maintaining control over her work.
The long-standing NFL tradition of unpaid halftime performances conflicted with Swift’s request for full ownership of her performance and ad slots. “She wasn’t asking for favors, she was asking for respect,” said a music executive. Another insider added, “She wasn’t about to hand that over for free,” emphasizing, “Taylor Swift doesn’t need exposure.”
Swift’s global influence made her a highly valuable potential halftime performer. “She wanted a deal that reflected her value,” one insider said. Discussions with the NFL exposed a clear disconnect: “They expect the biggest artists in the world to do it for ‘exposure,’” while Swift prioritized proper recognition. “The Super Bowl absolutely needs her,” the source noted, “not the other way around.”
