*Netflix has unveiled one last look at “Stranger Things 5” before the series returns for its long-awaited final season. Volume 1 launches Nov. 26 at 5 p.m. PT, setting the stage for the beginning of the end in Hawkins.
The new footage places viewers in the fall of 1987, where the town remains scarred by the Rifts that tore open at the close of Season 4. Determined to end Vecna once and for all, Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) captures the tone of the mission ahead with a sharp declaration: “I wanna see Vecna’s heart on a platter,” per Netflix’s Tudum. As the trailer unfolds, swarms of flying Demogorgons erupt into battle, signaling a level of warfare the series has never shown before.
Series co-creator Ross Duffer explains the season’s relentless pacing. “I think what’s unique about this season is that it starts a little bit in chaos because our heroes ultimately lost at the end of Season 4,” he tells Tudum. “We usually set up their normal life and how they’re going about school, and then we introduce the supernatural element. But in this case, this season is sprinting from the start.”

Season 5’s official synopsis confirms the stakes: “Our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. But he has vanished — his whereabouts and plans unknown.” With the government intensifying its hunt for Eleven and military quarantine gripping the area, Hawkins faces mounting tension as the anniversary of Will Byers’ disappearance stirs fresh unease.
According to creators Matt and Ross Duffer, the final season delivers revelations seeded all the way back in their 25-page mythology document drafted during Season 1. “We’ve saved a few big reveals for this season,” Ross said, while Matt emphasized that “Nothing in Hawkins is normal anymore.” Executive producer Shawn Levy adds that despite the ever-expanding scale, “It’s always anchored in these characters we love.”
Netflix will roll out the season in three parts: four episodes on Nov. 26, three more on Christmas, and the finale arriving on New Year’s Eve. Fans can check local release times to see when episodes land around the world and revisit recaps from Seasons 1 through 4 to prepare.
