*Years after ending their 31-year marriage in 2011, Mathew Knowles and Tina Knowles continue to publicly show support for one another. Tina recently emphasized that unity during a stop in Houston on her “Matriarch” book tour, where Mathew joined her onstage. She told attendees, “Both of us, neither one of us have ever bad mouthed each other, ever, and I would never do that,”
That spirit of cooperation was tested during a recent appearance by Mathew on PIX 11 anchor Kendis Gibson’s “Kandid with Kendis.” As Page Six reports, the conversation shifted when Gibson commended both Mathew and Tina for their work behind Destiny’s Child’s rise. Mathew responded by asking, “What work did she put in?”
Gibson pointed to Tina’s role in styling the group’s hair, prompting Mathew to acknowledge her impact. “Ok, you’re absolutely right, and the styling. The imaging. You’re right,” he said. Gibson characterized the success as “a joint effort,” but moments later Mathew stood and concluded the discussion, saying, “We’ll stop now,” Gibson then asked, “Did I say something wrong?”
Following the taping, Mathew maintained that the meeting had been off track from the start. He claimed Gibson arrived 15 minutes late and steered the discussion toward Tina instead of Destiny’s Child’s tribute concert. “How it starts is how it ends. It started on a bad note, and obviously ended on a bad note for him,” Mathew said, adding, “I politely ended the interview, shook his hand, and took a photograph,”
An insider offered a different account, asserting that Gibson arrived on time and did not dwell excessively on Tina. The source said he “was giving them their flowers. He was praising them for the work they’ve done.”
