Mama Tina Knowles $30 Gumbo Sparks Mixed Reactions

Mama Tina, who has been making gumbo for more than forty years, described her dish as “sort of like a soup” and likened it to a bouillabaisse base, “but it’s better.” Speaking to FOX 26 reporter Nate Griffin, she explained that cooking gumbo “is a very tedious process,” taking 15–20 hours per pot with expensive ingredients. She also said it’s “a hybrid of things that make it a wonderful taste.”

Despite her expertise, some attendees found the gumbo underwhelming. Several complained it was watery or “nasty,” and one fan shared a video showing mostly empty shrimp shells in her cup.
