*Lifetime is set to honor the legacy of celebrated author Eric Jerome Dickey with a television adaptation of his acclaimed novel “Friends and Lovers.” The two-part movie event, titled Eric Jerome Dickey’s Friends and Lovers, will star Naturi Naughton, Simone Missick, Kendrick Sampson, and RonReaco Lee.
According to Blex Media, the adaptation will headline Lifetime’s November “Love of a Lifetime” programming slate, debuting over two consecutive nights. Part one is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 15, at 8 p.m. ET/PT, followed by part two on Sunday, Nov. 16. The movie is described as “a contemporary romantic drama exploring how friendship, passion, and forgiveness collide.”
The synopsis reads: “The story follows two best friends, Debra (Naughton), a Type A doctor, and Shelby (Missick), a free-spirited rule breaker, as their lives intertwine with those of Leonard (Sampson), a rising but struggling comedian, and Tyrese (Lee), his loyal best friend. As Debra and Leonard’s love deepens, and Tyrese finds himself entangled with Shelby’s unpredictable ways, the four navigate the challenges of modern relationships. When tragedy strikes the group, they are forced to rebuild-transforming their bond from friendship into chosen family.”

Dickey, who passed away in 2021 after a cancer battle, left behind a body of work that profoundly influenced modern Black literature, and “Friends and Lovers” brings his voice to a new generation of viewers.
The film, a collaboration between Undaunted and WPP’s Motion Entertainment, is directed and executive produced by D’Angela Proctor, with a screenplay by Aireka Muse. Michael Buttiglieri and Chet Fenster also serve as executive producers.
Lifetime’s “Love of a Lifetime” series will also include Terry McMillan Presents: His, Hers, and Ours on Nov. 1, Terry McMillan Presents: Preach, Pray, Love on Nov. 8, and Toni Braxton’s “He Wasn’t Man Enough” on Nov. 22.
