Keith Porter Jr.’s funeral will take place in Inglewood on Jan. 23
*Funeral services for Keith Porter Jr. are scheduled for Tuesday, January 23, at 11:00 a.m. The service will be held at Faithful Central Bible Church’s The Living Room in Inglewood, California. Porter’s family, community leaders, and civil rights advocates are expected to attend and speak outside the church following the ceremony.
According to organizers, television cameras and photographers will not be allowed inside the church. However, media members are welcome outside, where interviews will be held after the service concludes.
Community demands justice in shooting by off-duty ICE agent
Porter, described by loved ones as a devoted father and respected member of the community, was shot and killed on New Year’s Eve by an off-duty Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent. The two men reportedly lived in the same apartment complex, but details surrounding the shooting remain disputed and unclear.
His death has sparked outrage and renewed scrutiny of how armed federal agents operate in civilian spaces when off-duty. Supporters are demanding full transparency and the release of the officer’s identity.

Advocates push for independent probe and officer’s arrest
Najee Ali, Director of Project Islamic Hope, spoke on behalf of the family, calling the killing “a tragic and unnecessary loss of life.”
“Keith Porter Jr. should be alive today,” Ali said. “The family and the community deserve the truth, full transparency, and an independent investigation free from federal interference.”
Civil rights advocates have called on California Attorney General Rob Bonta to immediately launch an independent investigation. They also continue to demand the immediate arrest of the ICE agent involved and public release of their name.
“Fear and instability” caused by unchecked use of force
Community leaders argue this case highlights a broader concern: how off-duty officers exercise their power. One local civil rights leader noted that when armed agents act as “judge, jury, and executioner” in residential settings, it erodes public trust.
“No one should lose their life under circumstances that remain so unclear and contested,” the advocate said, urging state authorities to intervene where federal systems have fallen short.
