*With popularity on social media, highlighted by 16.8 million TikTok followers, it’s hard to not enjoy being Keith Lee.
Yet underneath it all, the celebrity food critic deals with ups and downs, just like the rest of us. Chatting with Shannon Sharpe for his Club Shay Shay podcast, Lee revealed he was on the verge of committing suicide. Yet it was his father who stepped in to prevent what would’ve been a tragedy.
“Me and my dad got into it real bad. He told me that I could not go somewhere, and I said, ‘F-ck you! Who is telling me I can’t go somewhere?’” Lee told Sharpe as they rode around Las Vegas.
Tracing what led to his suicide attempt, the TikToker explained that he and his father got into an argument.
During the confrontation, Lee’s father told him that if he couldn’t respect his rules, he couldn’t live at his childhood home, according to CassiusLife.

Responding to dad, Lee tried to hang himself in the family’s backyard. Despite the heated nature of the argument, the patriarch stopped his son from carrying out his death wish and let Lee how he really felt.
“He came, picked me up, took me off them ties and told me how much he loved me, and that’s why I’m here today,” Lee shared. “I would’ve been gone. … I understood now like he does love you. He grew up without his father. He was just doing the best that he could do with what he had,” Lee said.
As the talk continued, the former MMA fighter mentioned that his father knew he was going through a phase and that they’ would get through it together. When his father told him he loved him, Lee admitted the acknowledgment completely changed his perception of their relationship.
