*Prince’s story may be ready for a new spotlight, and Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis want to see it happen.
The legendary producers discussed the possibility during a recent appearance on the “Big Tigger Morning Show.” When asked if Prince deserved a biopic on the level of the Michael Jackson film “Michael,” neither hesitated. “Oh, absolutely,” Jam said, Complex reports.
Lewis added, “Anything about Prince, I’m all in. I’m all ears. Talk to me about that. Let’s go.”
Jam pointed to Prince’s complexity as one reason a film could work. The producer has often credited Prince with shaping his career, and he believes the public still has more to learn. “There’s a lot more levels to Prince,” he said.
One challenge would come with casting. Jam noted that choosing someone to play Prince “would be tough” but “fun to watch.”
The Prince discussion followed Jam’s reaction to “Michael,” directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Jaafar Jackson as his late uncle. Jam praised Jaafar’s performance and said the filmmakers “nailed” the casting.
His comments come as interest in Prince’s legacy continues to grow. As we previously reported, fans will soon get another glimpse into the late icon’s expansive catalog with the release of “Timeless,” a 10-track collection drawn from his famed Vault of unreleased recordings.
The album spans nearly four decades of Prince’s career, featuring recordings made between 1977 and 2016, the year he died. Two tracks are alternate versions of previously released songs, while the other eight recordings have never been released publicly, according to Variety.
The newly released single, “Stone,” dates back to 1995. Sandra St. Victor, Tom Hammer, and Jules Van Even wrote the song, which remained unreleased until now. Earlier, Prince’s estate previewed the collection with “With This Tear,” a solo recording made at Paisley Park in November 1991.
