As SandraRose.com reports, Jennifer “Niffer” Jovin was arrested following actions authorities claim incited violence against the government. The controversy began when Jennifer posted a dance video set to music ridiculing Tanzania’s female president, Samia Suluhu. The president reportedly took offense to the content, leading to Jennifer’s arrest alongside 21 others who participated in an anti-government demonstration.
“Niffer alone has been charged with committing treason because, according to the charges, she allegedly encouraged people to buy face masks to protect themselves from tear gas,” her lawyer said. If convicted of conspiracy to commit treason, Jennifer could be sentenced to death by hanging.

Jennifer’s mother, Mwanaisha Isaac, made an emotional public appeal for President Suluhu to show mercy and release her daughter from detention. She said in a video, “I would like to apologize on behalf of my daughter for whatever mistakes she made. She is the breadwinner in this family, and without her, we shall suffer.”

The distraught mother emphasized her daughter’s critical role in supporting the family financially, including covering educational expenses and living costs for Jennifer’s younger siblings.
“I beg for forgiveness on behalf of my daughter. I also did not like what she did, and I am asking for forgiveness on behalf of the entire family,” Mwanaisha continued.
She has called on fellow Tanzanians to join her campaign, urging presidential clemency.
