*Universal Pictures has unveiled a new trailer for “How to Train Your Dragon,” a sweeping live-action adaptation of the animated phenomenon that first took flight in 2010.
Directed by Dean DeBlois, the creative force behind the original trilogy, this reimagining revisits the story that sparked a global franchise now redefined with jaw-dropping realism. Set on the windswept isle of Berk, the story centers on Hiccup, portrayed by Mason Thames. As the son of Chief Stoick the Vast, played once again by Gerard Butler, reprising his iconic voice role, Hiccup stands out from his dragon-fighting tribe for all the wrong reasons. But when he forms a secret friendship with Toothless, a mysterious and feared Night Fury, he challenges every rule his Viking ancestors ever upheld.
The trailer offers a first look at the film’s emotional core: the unlikely alliance between a misunderstood boy and a legendary dragon, and how their bond might heal a divided world. “This story is more than a battle between dragons and Vikings—it’s about friendship, trust, and choosing peace over fear,” DeBlois has said of his return to the franchise.
Nico Parker, recently praised for her roles in “Dumbo” and “The Last of Us,” co-stars as the fearless Astrid, while Nick Frost adds comedic edge as Gobber the blacksmith. The ensemble cast includes Julian Dennison, Peter Serafinowicz, Ruth Codd, and Murray McArthur.
The film is part of the Filmed for IMAX® program, promising a fully immersive cinematic experience. Inspired by Cressida Cowell’s bestselling novels, the film is set to soar into theaters on June 13, aiming to capture hearts once more, this time in vivid, live-action detail.
