*Eddie Murphy is reportedly preparing to launch a ventriloquist-driven stand-up tour that pushes comedic boundaries with custom-crafted puppets representing controversial and legendary figures from comedy history.
According to sources, Murphy has commissioned expertly designed puppet versions of Bill Cosby, Richard Pryor, and Paul Mooney, which made their debut in his Netflix documentary “Being Eddie.” The 64-year-old performer allegedly plans to take these creations on tour across the United States. Per RadarOnline, an insider revealed, “Eddie has quietly spent decades honing his ventriloquism skills and he really is one of the world’s best – and funniest – at it.”
The planned performances will reportedly feature elaborate staging where Murphy manipulates multiple puppets simultaneously, with setups involving all three characters interacting. In the documentary, Murphy arranges the Cosby, Pryor, and Mooney figures together while delivering a skit that alludes to the numerous allegations surrounding Cosby, who was accused of repeatedly drugging and sexually assaulting women.
“He’s going to do set-ups on stage and TV with the three puppets talking to each other, and others where he is controlling two of them at a time with him in the middle…. His voices are spot-on and he has been spending hours at home practising with them,” the insider said.
Industry insiders suggest the content will be edgy, with one source noting the humor “is going to be very close to the bone.” The use of puppet personas reportedly allows Murphy greater creative freedom, as sources claim, “Eddie knows he will be able to get away with a lot more if he says lines in character as Pryor and Mooney and even Cosby.”
The documentary “Being Eddie” premiered on Netflix in November and showcases Murphy’s nearly five-decade career journey. The film features appearances from comedy luminaries, including Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, Jerry Seinfeld, and Kevin Hart, offering viewers unprecedented access to Murphy’s personal life and professional evolution.
