
*Denzel Washington is without a doubt acting royalty. But as he found out, being human comes with its fair share of accidents. According to Page Six, the “Gladiator II” star unintentionally damaged himself physically recently when he nearly took a bite out of his own tongue.
As a result, Washington has to fall back a bit as he sounds a bit different when conversating with people.
“I bit my tongue almost half-off a few months ago,” the 70-year-old double Oscar winner confessed during an appearance on the New York Times’ “The Interview” podcast. “It’s affecting my speech. It forces me to slow down. I have to use it,” the 70-year-old “Oscar winner actor shared during his Saturday appearance on the New York Times’ “The Interview” podcast.
For those wondering how Washington slipped up and who distracted him to make such a mistake, the veteran entertainer had nothing more to speak on. The damage has been done. For Washington, his performance in the upcoming Broadway revival of “Othello.”
“I have a line: ‘Whither will you that I go to answer this your charge?’ It’s hard because my tongue is swollen. It has affected everything,” the “Training Day” fixture explained about the affect his tongue bite is taking on him.

Although it would be easy to treat the accident as a minus, Washington sees it more as a test of his faith, saying the bite showed him why he should “pray every day.”
“I’m like, ‘OK, Lord, I’m here, I think this is what you wanted me to do.’ Now I’m not sure why [I bit my tongue], but one can say coincidence and serendipity and all those things,” Washington, who made news with capping 2024 from being baptized and becoming a licensed minister, stated.
“At this point, everything I’m doing is through the lens of what God thinks, not what they think. I don’t know what they think.”
