*Da Brat and her wife Jessica “Judy” Dupart are breaking their silence about the alarming death threats their family has faced since revealing that their two-year-old son, True Legend, was conceived using a white sperm donor. The couple shared new insight into the situation during a recent conversation on Chicago radio station 107.5 WGCI.
Da Brat and Dupart documented their IVF process on the reality series “Brat Loves Judy” in 2023. As Complex reports, in the episode, Da Brat explained why they did not go with the lone Black candidate among 300 potential donors. “That [dude] looked like Jiminy Cricket,” the rapper said. “I was like, I’m sorry but that wasn’t gonna be my choice. … But I think we did a great job with picking. He’s handsome, he’s tall and I think he’s going to look beautiful with my wife’s egg.”
Those comments fueled accusations of colorism online. Dupart, however, told the radio hosts that medical science ultimately dictated their path.
“You have to do genetic testing where they say all of the things that you carry, you put it in the system, and then they tell you who you’re compatible with. As soon as we put in my seven things, we had no Black people available,” she explained.
Dupart emphasized that families going through the same process often face extremely narrow options and must navigate those limitations as best they can.
Da Brat said the reaction to her words was far bigger than she anticipated. She disclosed that threats were aimed directly at their child, which forced her to disconnect from online platforms. “I had to stop reading, I had to stop looking at it,” she said. “I’m from Chicago. I will pull up,” the hip-hop star said.
