*In the ongoing sex trafficking trial of Sean Combs, Cassie Ventura, the musician and former girlfriend of the rapper, provided harrowing testimony about the abuse she endured during their decade-long relationship.
As the BBC reports, Ventura, who is currently eight months pregnant, detailed the repeated physical and emotional abuse she suffered, describing incidents where Combs would “bash on my head, knock me over, drag me, [and] kick me,” adding that this violence occurred “too frequently.”
“There were violent arguments that usually resulted in some form of physical abuse,” she testified this morning, per Deadline.
Ventura, often known as Victim-1, became central to the case after she publicly accused Combs of assault in a 2023 civil suit, which was settled for $30 million. The trial gained further attention when disturbing hotel security footage surfaced, showing Combs dragging Ventura through a hotel hallway during a violent assault. The defense has contested the footage’s authenticity, claiming it was doctored and misrepresents the events, but Ventura’s testimony is pivotal in building the prosecution’s case.
According to prosecutors, Ventura was subjected to continuous threats and manipulation by Combs, who used explicit video footage of sexual encounters, known as “freak-offs,” as a form of blackmail to control her actions. “Her livelihood and safety depended on keeping him happy,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Emily A. Johnson told the jury. Ventura described her initial reluctance to participate in the “freak-offs” but felt compelled to comply because she “loved him very much” and feared the consequences of refusal.

Johnson said, “… if Cassie didn’t do what the defendant wanted, the consequences were severe.”
Throughout her testimony, Ventura recounted the emotional manipulation and physical abuse she faced, detailing how Combs would often use violence to maintain control. She revealed how the Bad Boy Records founder introduced her to voyeuristic sexual encounters, where he watched her engage with another man, and threatened to release the footage to ruin her career.
“He beat her when she didn’t answer the phone when he called. He beat her when she left a freak-off without his permission,” Johnson said in his opening statement, CNN reports. “He beat her when he thought she took too long in the bathroom. The defendant taught Cassie that defying him could and often would end in violence. And when she tried to run away, he always found her.”
However, defense lawyer Teny Geragos said, “This was a relationship, it was not based on coercion, it was not based on force,” describing it as a “toxic relationship between two people who loved each other.”
The trial, which is estimated to last 8 to 10 weeks, could result in severe consequences for Combs, with charges that include sex trafficking and racketeering. If convicted, he could face a life sentence.
As Ventura’s testimony continues, it paints a picture of a toxic and abusive relationship that left lasting scars on her personal and professional life.
