*Ayo Edebiri is calling out Elon Musk after he helped spread a baseless rumor that led to intense online harassment.
“The Bear” star took to Instagram to slam the Tesla CEO for amplifying a false claim that she was being considered to replace Johnny Depp in a “Pirates of the Caribbean” film—something that was never reported by credible sources.
Musk, reacting to the fake news in February 2024, responded on X (formerly Twitter) with “Disney sucks.” Edebiri, 29, recalled the backlash that followed.
“Just remembering when I got some of the most insane death threats and racial slurs of my life (idk if it’s the #1 moment, but for sure top 3) for a fake reboot of a movie I had never even heard of because of this man,” she wrote in her Instagram story.
She went on to label Musk a “fascist” and “an idiot.”

Despite the backlash, she found humor in the situation, sharing a message from a friend suggesting she might do well in a Pirates movie. Edebiri jokingly reconsidered the idea, writing, “Wait no DEI, but I’ve changed my mind. Maybe we could make some money idk lmk.”
However, as her posts gained traction in the media, she pushed back against the attention. “Stop making my IG stories news,” she wrote, adding, “I’m just tryna have a silly goofy time.”
Meanwhile, Season 4 of Ayo’s Emmy-winning series “The Bear” will premiere on Hulu and Disney+ in June.
Details about the new season remain tightly under wraps, with no official synopsis available. While a full trailer hasn’t been released, FX Networks shared a preview of their upcoming shows, featuring brief glimpses of S4. Watch the clip below.
