*Alicia Keys has taken up residence in a high-end Cleveland penthouse to oversee the launch of her Broadway musical “Hell’s Kitchen” tour, but her presence is causing a stir among fellow tenants.
According to sources, the building’s management has been halting elevator access each time the singer enters or exits, prompting irritation among residents. “It’s like she’s Queen Elizabeth. The [neighborging] streets were even shut down one night,” a source told Page Six. The luxury complex, which also houses Cleveland’s mayor, Justin Bibb, is Keys’ temporary home for a two-week period.
The Broadway hit “Hell’s Kitchen,” inspired by Keys’ early years in New York City, marks a significant milestone for the Grammy-winning artist who penned its music and lyrics. Development of the musical began in 2011, culminating in a 2024 Broadway debut that earned 13 Tony nominations and two wins, including a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album. Directed by Michael Greif, a four-time Tony nominee, the show follows Ali, a rebellious young woman guided by a mentor who introduces her to the transformative power of the piano. “Ali is lost until she meets her mentor: a neighbor who opens her heart and mind to the power of the piano,” the musical’s official website describes.
Adding star power to the production, tennis legend Serena Williams has joined as a co-producer for the tour, which will visit over 30 cities. “I was blown away when I saw HELL’S KITCHEN on Broadway last summer. I am proud to join the producing team of my first ever Broadway show and support Alicia and the amazing company of HELL’S KITCHEN as they get ready to light up the country on tour. Go see HELL’S KITCHEN when it comes to a city near you!” Williams stated in a news release.
Keys expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “I am so excited to have Serena join the HELL’S KITCHEN family as a co-producer as we begin our North American tour…it just keeps getting better! We’re so grateful! Let’s go!!!”
Keys’ involvement in “Hell’s Kitchen” reflects her passion for storytelling through music, a journey she’s thrilled to share with audiences nationwide. “Our show is all about dreaming big and there is no one who embodies that spirit quite like Serena Williams,” she said.
