*The 2024 Creative Coalition Humanitarian Awards took place on Saturday, September 15, at Ladyhawk in West Hollywood. The event brought together a diverse group of entertainment industry leaders, all gathered to celebrate individuals using their platforms for social good.
The awards luncheon honored actors Dulé Hill, Wendell Pierce, Teri Weinberg, Jeffrey Ross, and Steve Sawalich for their dedication to charitable and social causes.
Marc Malkin, Variety Senior Editor and host of the ceremony, shared his thoughts on the importance of celebrities leveraging their influence to drive meaningful change.
“When you see Hollywood taking a stand on whatever issue it is, they can have an impact,” Malkin noted. “It’s about recognizing the impact these honorees have on our communities and the broader world.”

I had the chance to speak with honoree Dulé Hill, who expressed gratitude for being recognized and emphasized the responsibility that comes with visibility in Hollywood.
“We’ve been given opportunities that have come our way, and I always ask myself what do you do with an opportunity? When given an opportunity, you have to go through it and make sure you create that opportunity for other people,” Hill said.
Iconic actress Lynn Whitfield also attended the event and took a moment to stress the importance of voting in this year’s election.
“Right now we need to talk about the importance of voting. We need to gather our reins, arrange ourselves, and know that we’re registered to vote and go out to vote. That’s the most important thing to do if you care about health, wealth, civil rights, and human rights,” Whitfield stated.
