*If the Toyota 4Runner is the rugged, adventurous friend who’s always down for a hike, the 2025 Grand Highlander Nightshade Hybrid is her big sexy sister—sleeker, more polished, and totally in her luxury-meets-practicality era. The blacked-out Nightshade trim gives it an instant head-turning presence, with glossy black wheels, dark accents, and badging that whispers “I’ve arrived” instead of shouting it. It’s bold but not loud, sophisticated yet approachable—kind of like showing up to brunch in an all-black power suit and fresh blowout. Let’s get into it.
The Look: It’s a cute one! I love the curb appeal of the 2025 Toyota Grand Highlander Nightshade Hybrid. I drove it in pearl white, which gave me an opportunity to admire its bold curves and accented details. Looking back at previous models, Toyota softened some of the rear fender curves and instead accentuated the vehicle’s shape with elegant sculpting at the edges. Black trim adds a bit of sportiness and fun to the look.
Inside, the 2025 Toyota Grand Highlander Nightshade Hybrid is practical, clean, and easy. You’ve got a modern dash design, subtle dark finishes, and soft-touch materials that feel nice without screaming for attention. And the added bonus is the exceptional comfort the seats bring to the ride. It’s spacious enough to carry everything—friends, groceries, luggage, or a last-minute HomeGoods haul. It’s a versatile SUV for sure. Plus, it’s sporting a panoramic sunroof!
The Drive: What’s most impressive about this SUV is the gas mileage at 35 mpg combined city and highway, but this shouldn’t be surprising because Toyota is always delivering optimal mpgs. What I love about the ride here is that it’s pretty smooth. I love a 4Runner – it’s one of my favorites in the Toyota line-up. The Grand Highlander is definitely a souped-up version of the 4Runner with more elegance and greater suspension. So, driving the Highlander gave me the rugged aspects I like about the 4Runner while smoothing out my city drive, taking away all that bounce. As far as power is concerned, I think it could use a larger engine for the size, but I’m no engineer. The vehicle comes with a 2.5L 4-Cyl. engine All-Wheel Drive. So moving quickly isn’t quite the Grand Highlander’s greatest strength.
The Tech: Toyota has been consistently stepping up its tech game, and the Grand Highlander is no exception. The 12.3-inch touchscreen is big and bright, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto that make syncing your phone totally seamless. You also get Toyota’s Safety Sense 2.5+ suite—think adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping, and a pre-collision system. As far as the wireless charging system, which seems standard in most vehicles now, the phone didn’t have a really secure place to be stored. Often, the phone needed to be re-secured.
Overall, the 2025 Toyota Grand Highlander Nightshade Hybrid is giving the people what we want with the curb appeal, creature comforts, and smooth ride. I love a hearty SUV with a great look.
