*The campaign of Virginia gubernatorial candidate Winsome Earle-Sears, a Black Republican, could use a boost but is getting the cold shoulder from President Donald Trump — and Democrats are taking advantage of the snub in the press. Earle-Sears checks off almost all of the boxes to receive favor from Trump, such as party loyalty, patriotism, military service, and embracing his policies. So, why hasn’t he given her a nod?
Perhaps it is because he likes to put his support behind strong candidates, and Sears has consistently been the underdog in a state that could swing either way. We do not have a specific reason Trump has not acknowledged the governor hopeful, but his silence is speaking loudly.
While speaking at the Naval Base in Norfolk, President Trump did not acknowledge the current Lieutenant Governor of Virginia. Months ago, he said he understood she was having challenges in the race and was willing to endorse her to give her a boost. Although Sears has presented herself as a conservative loyalist, the president has not rewarded her with any attention whatsoever.
Earle-Sears is struggling to catch up with Abigail Spanberger, her Democratic opponent, who has run attack ads pegging her as too MAGA.
The Democratic Party of Virginia is using the president’s rejection and Earle-Sears’ Trump-aligned record against her. They said in a press release that she begged for his endorsement, but Trump “avoided, snubbed, and ignored” her at the naval station.
“Even Donald Trump won’t support Winsome Sears,” said Democratic Party Chairwoman Susan Swecker in a statement. “If she can’t unite her own party, how can she lead Virginia?”
The Lt. Governor has not commented directly on Trump’s absence from her campaign but has emphasized her commitment to conservative values and her record of public service. Her campaign has focused on education reform, tax relief, and law enforcement support.
Political analysts say the lack of endorsement could complicate Sears’ efforts to mobilize the Republican base, particularly in rural areas where Trump remains popular.
We’re not sure if it meant much, but weeks earlier Vivek Ramaswamy, the Republican gubernatorial candidate from Ohio, had joined her on the campaign trail in a show of support.
