*Remember the Black co-captain in that infamous Montgomery Riverfront brawl last Summer who was seen being attacked by a group of white people? Well, in a shocking development, that man, Dameion Pickett, who was previously identified in court records as Damien Pickett, is now facing charges in connection to the incident.
Even though anybody with eyes and a functioning brain saw Pickett being attacked by the white group, He’s somehow being charged with third-degree assault for his actions (defending himself) in the incident, according to a report from WSFA-TV.
The altercation happened after Pickett approached the group to tell them to move their pontoon boat which was parked in the Harriott II’s parking space. The attackers, including Zachary Shipman, were seen punching and kicking Pickett. But now in a new complaint, Shipman alleges that he was simply defending himself during the brawl. Shipman also claimed he suffered a bruised cheekbone after Pickett (allegedly) punched him, which in our opinion, is why he’s bringing the bogus charge against the riverboat’s co-captain.
Actually, Pickett did more than just approach the group about their illegally parked pontoon. He moved it so the riverboat could park and disembark its passengers. The chaos ensued after he did that.

Viral videos clearly show the brawl began with Pickett, the co-captain of the Harriott II being attacked by Shipman. Then, two more white men joined in.
Videos also showed Onlookers coming to Pickett’s defense. One of them was a teenager who became a meme when he swam across the river to help take on Pickett’s assailants.
Arrest warrants were initially issued for 48-year-old Richard Roberts, 23-year-old Allen Todd, and 25-year-old Zachary Shipman — all white and of whom came from the private pontoon boat. Mary Todd, a white woman, and a black man, Reggie Ray, who used a folding chair a/k/a “Alabama Slamma” as a weapon in defense of Pickett, are also facing charges in connection to the brawl.
Shipman, by the way, was charged with assaulting Pickett. He has pleaded not guilty and is scheduled for trial later this month along with Todd and Ray.
Now that Pickett is being charged, all we can say is “What da hell is going on here?”
