*Former talk show host Wendy Williams has taken legal action to regain control over her personal and financial affairs.
According to the New York Post, Williams, 60, has filed an affidavit requesting the termination of her court-ordered guardianship, which has been in place since 2022 under guardian Sabrina Morrissey. Williams asserts that she can now manage her own life and has arranged for a medical evaluation by a doctor selected by her legal team.
Her attorneys are reportedly preparing an emergency petition to urge the court to reconsider her guardianship. Sources indicate Williams is prepared to push for a jury trial to make her case if the request is denied. The legal battle comes amid growing public concern for Williams’ well-being, heightened by the release of a new documentary, “TMZ Presents: Saving Wendy,”.
In the film, Williams describes the facility where she is currently residing as a “prison” and claims she has only been outside twice in the last 30 days and both occasions were for appointments.
Williams and TMZ’s Harvey Levin spoke over the phone since she cannot have visitors. She was filmed from the sidewalk below as she looked out of her fifth-floor window. Recently released footage shows her visibly distraught at the facility, crying and appearing distressed while speaking on the phone.

When Levin asked if she was “allowed to go out,” Williams responded, “No, no. I am not allowed to go out. I can call you, but you can’t call me.” She added, “In the last 30 days I went out twice.”
Williams has denied having dementia and dismissed claims that she is “incapacitated” following a legal dispute with her Morrissey. Shortly after the famed media personality addressed her health on a recent The Breakfast Club appearance, Morrissey requested a new medical evaluation in court.
Williams also denied being “incapacitated” during an appearance on The Don Lemon Show on January 16 and reiterated that she wasn’t cognitively impaired during a separate interview on The Breakfast Club later that day.
Hours after her new interview on The Breakfast Club earlier this month, Morrissey requested a “new medical evaluation” in the new court filing.
“In these statements, [Williams] has indicated that, in her opinion, she is not suffering from dementia and is not incapacitated,” Morrissey’s filing stated. “We are writing this letter today because, during a radio interview this morning, [Williams] discussed the A&E matter at some length and appeared to indicate that she does not want to proceed with the action.”
