*Welch’s is expanding beyond its signature grape products with the release of a new Four Berry Spread, marking the company’s first new jelly variety in 30 years, All Recipes reports.
The new product combines blackberries, blueberries, strawberries and raspberries in a single spread. Welch’s packages the product in an 18-ounce jar, and the item has already begun appearing on store shelves. Shoppers can now find the Four Berry Spread at Publix, Kroger, Hy-Vee, and select Walmart locations. The product carries a retail price of $4.
Interest in the new offering increased after a shopper raved about the product on Instagram, writing: “This could take your morning toast, PB&J, or even desserts to the next level!”
Alongside the Four Berry Spread, Welch’s has introduced three additional products to its lineup. The company recently released an 18-ounce Strawberry Spread, an Organic Concord Grape Spread, and a Low Sugar Concord Grape Jelly.
The Four Berry Spread enters a category that already includes several mixed-berry products. Among them is Smucker’s Natural Triple Berry Fruit Spread, which combines blueberries, blackberries, and red raspberries.
According to product information, Smucker’s emphasizes a shorter ingredient list, non-GMO certification, and a natural product positioning. Welch’s new spread adds a different berry combination to the market by incorporating strawberries alongside the other fruits.
The launch represents a rare addition to Welch’s jelly portfolio. The company has not introduced a new jelly flavor in three decades, making the Four Berry Spread its first new entry in the category since then.
