*The Weeknd’s highly anticipated psychological thriller “Hurry Up Tomorrow,” set for a theatrical release in May, has just unveiled its first trailer.
The film shares its title with The Weeknd’s new album, which is already being hailed as one of the best of 2025. The movie features Abel Tesfaye (aka The Weeknd) alongside a star-studded cast, including Golden Globe nominee Jenna Ortega and Oscar nominee Barry Keoghan.
Directed by Trey Edward Shults, the film centers on a musician plagued by insomnia is pulled into an odyssey with a stranger who begins to unravel the very core of his existence.
“Hurry Up Tomorrow” is exclusively in theaters on May 16. Watch the trailer below.
Tesfaye told W Magazine in 2023 that this latest album “is probably my last hurrah as The Weeknd,” he revealed. “This is something that I have to do. As The Weeknd, I’ve said everything I can say.”
Shults spoke to Variety about directing the pop star, “I was blown away by how well he responds to direction as an actor: There would be days where I was ready to walk away from a scene, thinking we got it, and he would ask for another take and push the scene to a new level,” he said.
“I don’t think people realize yet what a good actor he is,” Shults added.
Tesfaye told the outlet that Keoghan “was a friend of mine prior to all this,” adding, “and he was always number one on my list for his role.”
Of Ortega, he said she “brought so much depth to the character.”
“There was a scene where Trey and I looked at each other like, ‘On paper, this is just ridiculous — how is it going to translate on screen?’ “Tesfaye explained.
“And she said, ‘I have an idea.’ She led that whole scene — none of it was rehearsed, and a lot of my reactions in it are not acting,” he continued.
Abel’s screen credits include “The Idol” for HBO and in 2019, he played a version of himself in “Uncut Gems.”
