*Universal Pictures held an immersive screening event for “Twisters,” the much-anticipated sequel to the 1996 film “Twister.”
The original film was a cultural success leading to its own attraction at Universal Studios Orlando. Fans enjoyed a tornado simulator, a 360 photo with special effects of high winds, and special cocktails inspired by the film. After the screening country singer Tanner Adell performed a melody of hits. Including her single, which is featured on the Twisters soundtrack. Her performance was a refreshing shift of energy after this intense, suspenseful action-packed sequel.
Although “Twisters” is a sequel it can also be viewed as a standalone film. This version follows a similar plot – a young woman has a passion for storm chasing. Unlike Helen Hunt’s character, Jo, in the original, who makes it her life’s mission to chase tornadoes to gain an understanding of them. Kate, played by Daisy Edgar-Jones, experiences a devastating encounter with a tornado that makes her walk away from chasing.
When an old friend needs her help she finds herself reluctantly back into that world. While stepping back into her old world. She meets a rival chaser, Tyler Owens, played by Glen Powell. This film takes a different approach to the love story. Nevertheless, viewers will experience a rom-com within an action film as Jones and Powell’s relationship develops over a shared experience and interest in storms.
The story-line has so much depth it intensifies the viewers’ experience as you quickly sympathize and root for these characters at the same time.
“Twisters” hits theaters on July 19th.
