*Tyra Banks revealed that her home was destroyed in the Los Angeles fires.
Speaking on the Australian breakfast show Sunrise, the 51-year-old model shared that she and her boyfriend, Louis Bélanger-Martin, were at a friend’s house in Australia when they learned of the loss.
“We were celebrating and just having fun. I kept checking my phone, not for my house, but just for friends and family,” she said, PEOPLE reports. “I was just making sure they were evacuating and everything.”
She added, “Then, I asked my partner, ‘I’m seeing something here. What do you think?’ And he said [she nods].”
Speaking of her family and friends, Banks said that “some are doing okay, some are not doing so great.”
Banks didn’t initially mention her house burned down when the wildfires began on Jan. 7 because she didn’t want to put the focus on herself.
“I haven’t really talked about it but, yeah, I have,” Banks continued. “I just didn’t want to pull a lot of attention to me, I feel that there’s a lot of people that need that attention, so I haven’t really talked about it, but I can’t sit here and not tell the truth, so yeah we lost our house.”
After discovering that their home was gone, Banks said she “pulled it together.”
“I didn’t say anything to my friends. I just stayed in that moment. Then we went home and we cried. We had our moment,” she added.
A lot of Tyra’s mementos were in Australia or New York due to her living between the two places.
“So, I didn’t lose those thank goodness,” she said.
Meanwhile, PEOPLE reports that many celebrities have lost their homes due to the L.A. wildfires, including Anna Faris, Ricki Lake, Cary Elwes, Cameron Mathison, Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag, Leighton Meester and Adam Brody, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Joshua Jackson.
According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, the death toll from the fires has risen to 27. Thousands remain under evacuation orders.
