*Tika Sumpter may look to have it all, but she is not immune to trials and tribulations as a mother. On a recent episode of “The Tamron Hall Show,” “The Haves and the Have Nots” star opened up about the miscarriage she suffered with the loss of her second child.
Sumpter and her husband Nicholas James are parents to daughter Ella-Loren, who they welcomed in 2016. Prior to the miscarriage, the couple, who married in 2022, had plans to further expand their family.
But, “It wasn’t in the cards,” Sumpter said.
“I haven’t really talked about IVF or expanded upon it but I did hold the child and I miscarried,” the 41-year-old “Sonic the Hedgehog” franchise fixture told host Tamron Hall while sharing her thoughts on the IVF process, she went through and experience with losing the pregnancy.
Despite the heartbreak, Sumpter is grateful for the chance to share her situation with those who can benefit from how she handled her tragedy.
In her eyes, the optimism stems from her view that “IVF gives so much hope!”
“I’m glad that I can share with others the experience because, while it was tough, it was still worth it for me because Ella was there,” Sumpter voiced. “She didn’t know I held the child, but she saw the shots. She saw all of those things.”
Further reflecting on her situation, Madame Noire reports the “Stomp the Yard: Homecoming” alum admitted her only regret is that she didn’t know more about her own health.
Now that she knows what her body needed for the best chance at carrying to term, Sumpter shared that she still might “try again.”
Sumpter’s miscarriage wasn’t the only thing she revealed to Hall, as she touched on her career, motherhood, and helping other parents with her new children’s podcast.

Taking time to speak on her miscarriage marks the first time Sumpter spoke on the topic, For her, the admission was “relieving.” She reflected on walking the fine line between keeping a guard up and sharing everything with the world.
“I feel like I’m helping somebody else understand the process. Not only the process, but I’ve also been there with you. Because I’m not the first one and I won’t be the last, but we can share in that,” Sumpter stated on walking the fine line between keeping her guard up and sharing everything with the world.
Professionally, Sumpter couldn’t been in a better place, with her new roles on CBS’ hit medical show “Watson” and the second season of “Survival of the Thickest,” respectively.
For “Watson,” she will portray a pediatric oncologist and love interest for Morris Chestnut’s Dr. Watson, while “Survival of the Thickest” finds her as Tone Bell’s love interest.
Outside of the acting screen, Sumpter’s acting skills are used with her husband on their children’s podcast, Adventures of Curiousity Cove, in addition to making moves on the literary front with the release of her first children’s book, “I Get It From My Mama.”
