*The Ts Madison Starter House, a trailblazing reentry residence for Black trans women who were once incarcerated, began welcoming residents in Atlanta, Georgia, during this year’s Transgender Day of Visibility.
Spearheaded by trans influencer Ts Madison alongside NAESM, Inc., a well-known Atlanta nonprofit dedicated to HIV/AIDS support, this project offers a nurturing space for up to four trans-identified males at once. It joins A New Way of Life’s SAFE Housing Network, a countrywide effort to ensure secure housing for people leaving incarceration.
Having lived there herself, Madison told Gaye Magazine she reimagined the house to empower others facing hardships, like homelessness and sex work. “I wanted to use this house as a conduit for girls to become great,” she explained.
“I was a girl that was disenfranchised and homeless and was in sex work, and so many great things have happened in this house… I want people to understand that it’s not where you start, it’s where you go,” Madison added.
The residence has been a place of personal triumph for the actress and producer, and she hopes it will inspire others.

NAESM’s website calls the house “a transformative investment in the future of Black trans women,” highlighting its provisions: healthcare, mental health resources, wellness programs, and business-focused training sessions.
“We are building a model of care, economic empowerment, and long-term sustainability that ensures Black Trans people have access to safe housing, affirming healthcare, economic opportunities, and holistic support,” the website states.
The trans women living there, referred to as “stakeholders,” play a vital role in advancing Black queer and trans liberation.
At the opening, trans activist Monroe Alise emphasized resilience, stating, “In the face of erasure, we still find solutions,” highlighting the urgency of unity and visibility amid ongoing challenges.
“They are trying to erase Black trans and nonbinary individuals throughout the country, the 1%. It really isn’t about us, but they’re just starting with us. In this time, we must come together, stand together, and be more visible than ever,” Alise added, per The Atlanta Voice.
