*Tommy Davidson has confirmed production completion on “Varnell Hill,” the highly anticipated spinoff centered on his beloved character from the 1990s sitcom “Martin.” During an interview with Rap Attack Official, the comedian/actor disclosed that filming has wrapped and editing is underway.
“It’s real, we shot it,” he shared, per PEOPLE. “We shot eight of them… We’ve seen the editing, and it’s beautiful.”
Davidson revealed he and Lawrence reconnected after nearly a decade and a half apart. “Me and Martin got together probably after 14 years. We hadn’t seen each other. We hadn’t been on camera together since the show was out,” he explained. Davidson noted that Lawrence was initially hesitant about pursuing the spin-off show, but he ultimately realized, “That would be bomb.”
Lawrence serves as co-creator and executive producer on the workplace comedy series. Varnell Hill originally appeared on “Martin” as a flamboyant, charismatic talk show personality who cultivated a devoted following. More than three decades after his debut, the character receives his own dedicated series on BET+.

The creative roster features “Martin” veteran Bentley Kyle Evans as showrunner, writer, director, and executive producer. BET+ has yet to announce a premiere date for “Varnell Hill.”
