*NPR Music has officially opened submissions for the 2026 edition of the Tiny Desk Contest, marking the competition’s 12th year. The annual program invites unsigned musicians to submit a video performance of an original song for a chance to appear on the “Tiny Desk” concert series and receive professional industry support, per the news release.
Artists selected through the contest gain access to major career opportunities, including mentorship from a music industry expert and the chance to headline a 10-city national tour. Past winners include Grammy Award recipients such as Fantastic Negrito and Tank and the Bangas, whose careers expanded significantly following their wins.
Entries are now being accepted, with the submission window opening January 13, 2026, at 10 a.m. ET and closing February 9, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. ET. Contest rules and submission details are available through NPR, and applicants must submit a performance video uploaded to YouTube along with a completed entry form.
Winners are selected by a panel that includes NPR Music producers, radio hosts, musicians, and music industry professionals. This year’s judges include Bobby Carter, Robin Hilton, Anamaria Sayre, Celia Gregory, Alex Marrero, Jessica Linker, Madison McFerrin, Tierra Whack, and Katie Crutchfield of Waxahatchee.
Reflecting on the process, Hilton said, “It’s such an honor and sincere joy to get to spend time with so many beautifully creative artists who send in their work. I honestly can’t wait to hear and see this year’s entries, and to see where it takes us.”
While only one grand prize winner is selected, many participants receive exposure across NPR Music platforms, including social media, YouTube, broadcast programming, and the Tiny Desk Contest newsletter. Judges will also spotlight standout submissions through the Tiny Desk Contest Top Shelf livestream series, with fan voting returning later this spring.
The contest continues to demonstrate its long-term impact on artists’ careers. Recent winners include The Philharmonik, who completed an international tour after winning in 2024, and Ruby Ibarra, the 2025 winner, who is preparing to release a new album in 2026.
Eligibility is open to unsigned musicians aged 18 and older who reside in the United States, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands. The 2026 Tiny Desk Contest is presented by Capital One and supported by Rivian.
