*We caught up with the cast of Tubi’s new series “The Z Suite” to chat with Madison Shamoun, Spencer Stevenson, Anna Bezahler, and Evan Marsh about their characters and the show’s intriguing plot, centered around a generational showdown.
The series follows high-powered advertising executive Monica Marks (Lauren Graham) and her fiercely loyal right-hand man Doug Garcia (Nico Santos) as they navigate an unexpected career crisis. After a major misstep leaves them canceled and replaced by a team of ambitious Gen Z upstarts—led by social media-savvy Kriska Thompson (Shamoun)—Monica and Doug refuse to go down without a fight. What follows is a hilarious and biting generational showdown where experience meets innovation, and no marketing trick is off-limits.
“The Z-Suite” highlights two very different generations in the fast-paced world of advertising, “…starting with, do we understand each other’s literal language?” Graham told EUR about the generational clashes that we also see in today’s real workplace.
“…we kind of feel the opposite, that there is a generational gap, but that people are just people,” said Shamoun. “People are people everywhere in every country, and people do people things. I just kind of feel like we’re all not so different. The gaps are wide in terms of our show and how old or how young we are playing these characters. But we’re talking about how slang has kind of come full circle and how Monica and Kriska have the same wants and needs. They’re just different ages.”
Shamoun describes her character Kriska as “very competitive,” noting that she “takes over Monica’s role as CEO” and “wants to win and wants to come out on top.”
“She’s determined to do so, is extremely ambitious…and I’d also go as far to say that she’s a bit of Monica,” Shamoun added.
Speaking of Monica, Graham says her character comes “from a world where the way you get to the top is slowly, painfully and clawing and — having to prove yourself and it is a surprise to her that everybody doesn’t understand that.”
Monica’s ambition in “The Z-Suite” is both her greatest strength and her biggest vulnerability. Check out what the rest of the cast—Spencer, Anna, and Evan—had to say in the clip below about how friendships and loyalty are tested amid the generational showdown in the series.
“The Z-Suite” debuted Thursday, Jan. 6, on Tubi with two episodes and new ones to follow each week.
