*Toyota is doing a thing, ya’ll. The 2025 Toyota Crown Nightshade Edition introduces a bold new aesthetic to Toyota’s flagship sedan, combining some smooth styling with the brand’s reliable hybrid efficiency. It’s definitely something that takes a moment to get used to, because it’s so different from any Toyota I’ve ever driven. Let’s get into it.
The Look: First of all, upon first glance, you might mistake the vehicle for a different brand. I remember saying, “What is that?” Someone said it reminded them of an American car brand we will not name here lol.
The Nightshade Edition stands out with its blacked-out design elements, elegant curves, and refined look. The Limited trim features 21-inch matte-black 10-spoke alloy wheels, black mirror caps, door handles, window trim, and dark badging. Available exclusively in Black or Storm Cloud, this edition exudes a sleek and modern appearance. Inside is where all the surprise and delight come in.
The cabin offers leather-trimmed seats, a panoramic fixed-glass roof with a power sunshade, which was kind of annoying because I really wanted to open the sunroof. The black interior motif is super luxy and elevates the Toyota brand to a new level. The dash area feels a little like a spaceship if there ever was one to compare. The edges are smooth, rounded, and sleek.
I’m used to Toyota’s more rigid design elements. This was a refreshing, new experience. The one thing I didn’t enjoy was the bulkiness of the charging port. It looks a little like a back fat roll on a skin-tight dress.
The Drive: Powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid system, the 2025 Toyota Crown Nightshade Edition makes some moves on the road, delivering a combined 236 horsepower on the road while offering some impressive fuel efficiency at 42 mpg city and 41 mpg highway. Overall, it’s a smooth ride and fun to drive.
The Tech: The 2025 Toyota Crown Nightshade Edition touts a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which seamlessly connects, a screen improvement I absolutely love for Toyota. And I also love that Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wirelessly connect.
The wireless charging station, however, was a bit unreliable. Designed to hold a wireless device in a vertical manner, the design seems to suggest safe driving practices so that the phone isn’t distracting, but the charging didn’t seem to work very well for me. However, the sound system is great! As far as safety, drivers can rest assured that this baby is equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0.
Overall, the 2025 Toyota Crown Nightshade Edition is a fun surprise, successfully blending some new, distinctive styling and fabulous new design elements into the Toyota look. It’s definitely turning heads and making a statement on the road.
