*Teddy Riley is bringing one of R&B’s most influential groups back, but in a new form. The Grammy-winning producer, credited with creating the new jack swing sound, has introduced Guy 2.0, a reimagined version of the original group Guy.
Complex reports that the updated lineup does not include original members Aaron Hall and Damion Hall. Instead, Guy 2.0 will feature Fred “Ljai” Robinson, formerly of Profyle; J Stylz, who was part of BS2; and solo R&B artist Ray Lavender, previously signed to Geffen Records.
Riley announced the new incarnation on the group’s social channels. “Greetings IG! We are GUY 2.0!! Follow us on our mission!!” the group wrote on Instagram, adding that fans can catch them live through the Teddy Riley Xperience.
This is not Riley’s first experience revamping a legendary R&B act. About ten years ago, he introduced BS2, a refreshed version of Blackstreet featuring a new lineup performing the group’s classic catalog.
Guy’s original run, beginning in 1987 with Teddy Riley, Aaron Hall, and Timmy Gatling (later joined by Damion Hall), left a lasting impact on R&B. Hits like “Groove Me,” “Teddy’s Jam,” and “Let’s Chill” helped define late-’80s and early-’90s R&B, while their albums went platinum and influenced the emergence of the new jack swing movement.
Over the past two decades, the original members have reunited several times for select shows and tours. Their last studio album, “Guy III,” was released in 2000.

What’s Next for Guy 2.0?
Details are still unfolding—expect more live dates under the Teddy Riley Xperience banner, but new music remains a tantalizing possibility. Fans are buzzing on X (formerly Twitter), with posts hyping the Tokyo gig and questioning setlist overlaps with Blackstreet tunes.
Follow @TeddyRiley1 on X for updates or check the official Guy Facebook page for tour drops.
This move feels like a full-circle moment for Riley, who’s spent decades evolving R&B. As he keeps innovating at 58, Guy 2.0 could reignite that ’90s fire for a new generation.
