*Taylor Swift is reportedly close to finalizing a deal with Warner Bros. to star in a remake of “The Bodyguard,” stepping into the lead role once played by Whitney Houston.
Sources say the agreement is nearly complete and includes plans for Swift to create original music for the film, as well as details around merchandise and her co-star, RadarOnline reports. Several major actors like Brad Pitt, Ben Affleck, and Tom Cruise are being considered for the male lead. The project will be directed by Sam Wrench, who previously worked with Swift on “The Eras Tour” film, and the screenplay is being written by Jonathan Abrams.
While casting details for “The Bodyguard” reboot remain under wraps, anticipation is already mounting over who might fill the shoes of the original leads, Houston and Kevin Costner. The 1992 film, which grossed over $411 million globally and received two Academy Award nominations, paired Costner as former Secret Service agent Frank Farmer with Houston as music superstar Rachel Marron. The chemistry, the suspense, and a legendary soundtrack turned the film into a cultural touchstone.
The original storyline followed Farmer as he’s hired to protect Marron from a menacing stalker, and what begins as a professional assignment turns into a whirlwind romance. The film’s soundtrack remains unparalleled in its impact, still holding the record as the best-selling movie soundtrack of all time. Featuring chart-topping classics like “I Will Always Love You,” “I’m Every Woman,” and the Oscar-nominated ballads “Run to You” and “I Have Nothing,” the music became as legendary as the film itself.
Given Wrench’s recent success capturing the grandeur of Swift’s record-breaking tour, which brought in $2 billion in ticket sales across 149 shows and $261.7 million at the global box office, it’s no surprise Warner Bros is betting on his vision for “The Bodyguard” remake.

The development was confirmed in a recent interview with Warner Bros co-chairs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy, who also hinted at a slate of high-profile franchise projects in the works, including new entries for “Gollum,” “The Matrix,” “Gremlins,” and “Goonies.”
De Luca hinted at how quickly the studio is moving with “The Bodyguard” remake, saying: “The ink might not be dry on the deals yet, but imminently.”
