*R&B superstar SZA is offering clarity on her social media clash with rapper Nicki Minaj.
In a new interview with GQ, the songstress said she has no personal relationship with Minaj and was confused by how the conflict escalated online. “I don’t know her. We have no connection to each other,” SZA explained, adding that there was “no backstory” behind the exchange.
We reported earlier that SZA found herself entangled in a public dispute with Minaj over the summer. The drama erupted on July 15 when Minaj accused SZA’s manager, Terrence “Punch” Henderson, of “bullying” her. When SZA seemingly addressed the claims by writing, “don’t take the bait lol silly goose,” Nicki replied: “Go draw your freckles back on bookie.”

The hip-hop star escalated the conflict on X, calling SZA “ugly” and a “liar” and mocking her appearance with, “B—h looking & sounding like she got stung by a f–king bee.” She also dismissed SZA’s musical impact, claiming, “… if every song you’ve ever done vanished right now the music business wouldn’t even miss you.”
SZA, unfazed, responded, “I don’t give a f–k bout none of that weird s–t you popping,” and clarified she “wasn’t even talking about or to anyone.” The “Kill Bill” artist also addressed Minaj’s fanbase, the Barbz, saying, “I get bullied by millions online every day then step … out onna (sic) packed stadium tour where ppl show me REAL love . IN REAL LIFE.”
Minaj also claimed she had visited countries where people had “never heard of” SZA. As PEOPLE reports, the artist replied with a screenshot of a 2020 text message in which Minaj had asked her to collaborate on a track called “Don’t Do.” She wrote, “Nicki. You absolutely know my music and what I contribute cause you’ve asked for features twice to no response.”
She also noted Minaj rapping lyrics from her “Feeling Myself” track, which SZA co-wrote, writing “Lol ur having a moment .. im not sure why but be blessed.”
SZA told GQ, “That’s not even my place to correct a narrative that I don’t got s— to do with. It was a little strange. It was very like, ‘Why?’ But also, you know ‘I guess.’”
