Q: How did you create Harry Da Souza?
TH: Harry’s an interesting character to play. I’ve done 20, 30 years of character research. There’s plenty of people like Harry. And they’re not just in the mob world. Some hotel concierges is bound to have somebody who operates on a fundamental level like Harry. Politicians, lawyers, doctors…You can take a slice from problem solving from a plethora of different professions and apply that in this comedy, comic world of “Pulp Fiction” crime drama to Harry. The collage of people I pieced together in his context have been drawn from a wide range of professionals, as opposed to going to interview real mobsters, which I have done, but I did that a long, long time ago.
Q: Who is the fixer in your family?
LP: I thought I was until I went to therapy and realized I was doing a really bad job! How arrogant it was…thinking I was even remotely responsible for other people’s well being.
JF: We all are at times. We all have to be the fixer, and sometimes we all have to be fixed.
