*Solange Knowles has opened up about her struggles with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), which Johns Hopkins describes as “a blood circulation disorder that causes heart rate to increase and symptoms to worsen when standing upright.”
Knowles, 38, wrote about her experience with POTS in the comments section of 33-year-old musician Shaun Rosss’ Instagram post about his POTS diagnosis which he said developed as a result of long COVID. “Sending u so much love and strength Shaun and to all in the comments struggling with the debilitating, confusing, and lonely symptoms of POTS,” Knowles wrote.
According to US Magazine, Knowles also revealed she was previously diagnosed with Sjögren’s syndrome and mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS), noting that she can “really relate to not wanting your health to be your identity.”
The superstar singer also gave a shout-out to Dysautonomia International, a nonprofit that “seeks to improve the lives of individuals living with autonomic nervous system disorders,” per its website.
“The good folks at @dysautonomiaintl were really an incredible resource for me and I feel really grateful for the spoonie community for holding me down during my times of complete uncertainty!” she wrote.

Ross responded to Knowles’ comment, saying, “Thank you so much Solange. You’ve known me since I was a teen and how energetic I can be. This definitely changed my entire outlook on so much [trying] to navigate this entirely. I appreciate you so much. Sending love ❤️.”
In the post’s comments, one person also shared their battle with POTS, writing, “Thank you for sharing. I recently got diagnosed with POTS in March and still struggling to control these debilitating symptoms. I’ve seen so many drs and the most I’ve gotten was some heart meds to get the heart rate down and yet that still doesn’t work. Any suggestions on what has helped you manage the symptoms?”
Another IG user added, “Sharing your story is going to help someone else who’s curious or struggling with those same symptoms ? You’re making a difference.”
