*Tom Brady, long admired by Skip Bayless as the greatest NFL player of all time, may not return the affection anymore. According to a report citing a source close to the former quarterback, Brady now views the outspoken sports commentator as an “idiot” following controversial claims Bayless made during the 2025 NFL Draft.
The dispute centers around Bayless’s assertion that Brady influenced the Las Vegas Raiders to pass on Shedeur Sanders, the son of NFL legend Deion Sanders. Bayless tweeted, “It is now pretty clear Tom Brady, who mentored Shedeur, told the Raiders NOT to take Shedeur. Duly noted.” The analyst also implied that Brady played a role in Shedeur’s dramatic fall to the fifth round, where he was ultimately drafted by the Cleveland Browns at No. 144 overall.
However, insiders close to Brady have pushed back strongly. According to the Daily Mail, Brady was “offended” by Bayless’s remarks and believes they are baseless. “Tom thinks that Skip Bayless is an idiot for thinking he had anything to do with Shedeur’s downfall in the NFL Draft,” the outlet quoted a source as saying.
The source also clarified that while Brady, now a minority owner with the Raiders, is occasionally consulted, he does not make personnel decisions. “Will they talk to Tom for his advice? Absolutely, but Tom had no sway on getting Shedeur or staying away from him,” the insider added. The team’s quarterback situation had already been addressed with a trade for Geno Smith, and they used their first pick on running back Ashton Jeanty.
Despite the controversy, Brady has previously spoken highly of Shedeur, noting his commitment and eagerness to learn. “He’s very proactive,” Brady said in 2023, per The Sun. “We had a conversation, then phone calls, then text messages… he made the commitment to say, ‘I’m very serious about it.’”
