*Simon Cowell has fielded his share of odd requests, but even he was caught off guard by a particularly unusual offer involving a random couple and a six-figure sum.
Speaking on the How to Fail podcast this week, the longtime “American Idol” and “X Factor” judge opened up about a strange encounter that occurred in a restaurant years ago. A man approached Cowell to ask for a photo, which he happily agreed to. But the conversation quickly took an unexpected turn. The man introduced his wife, then posed a jaw-dropping question: Would Cowell be willing to “judge [them] having sex”?
“At first, I thought he was joking,” Cowell recalled, New York Post reports. “I’m, like, ‘Are you winding me up?’ They went, ‘No, we’ll pay you.’”
Naturally curious, Cowell asked how much they were offering. The response? A staggering $150,000.
“I thought, ‘Do I? No, I just can’t do it,’” Cowell admitted, revealing that although the number made him pause, he ultimately declined. “It was just so bizarre.”

The 65-year-old entertainment mogul, known for his no-nonsense critique style, shared the anecdote as part of a broader conversation about the oddities of fame. He also noted that people have frequently asked him to be rude to them, presumably emulating his TV persona, but he consistently refuses those requests, too.
Though he’s built a career on judging others, Cowell said he finds small talk challenging and social events awkward. “I am very shy,” he confessed.
“If we have a common subject, I’m pretty good, but years ago, if I had to go to a party … and had to talk to people, it [was] torture,” Cowell added.
