*You may have read up on some of the biggest Black news stories from 2018 when they happened, but we are counting on the fact that you missed quite a lot.
We, however, are going to be warding off all the negativity and narrate the untold stories of the Black community and its success and achievement stories. So are you ready?
1. Hanif Johnson, 27, Becomes the Youngest Judge in Pennsylvania
Hanif Johnson was a student of Penn State University who became the president of the Omega Psi Phi. This is when he was charged with assault because of an allegation of hazing – which is why he spent about 3 weeks in jail. Even though Johnson wasn’t found guilty, he had been handed down a summary of charges regarding harassment.
Well, in 2018, Johnson snapped back by managing to become the youngest judge to be elected in the State of Pennsylvania. He had won by a large margin of 73% too! Read more here.
2. A Black Barber Made Half a Million Making ‘Man Weaves’
Hair extensions and weaves are traditionally something women are more into, but a Black barber in Maryland had kickstarted a business that was focused at making hair weaves only for men. The synthetic and natural hair he added to men’s balding scalps brought him about half a million in earnings in no time. Read more here.
3. Mellody Hobson Manages to Become the Vice Chairperson of Starbucks
Among the most knowledgeable and respected Black business leaders of our time is Mellody Hobson and this was before she was appointed as the vice-chairperson of Starbucks. She replaced the longtime chair person Howard Schultz in June 2018 and this happened at a very crucial time. This event happened sometime around the scandal involving 2 Black men getting arrested in one of the coffee chain’s Philadelphia stores. Read more here.

4. Nike Sneaker Designed by 3 Black Women and Unveiled by LeBron James
The NBA superstar had debuted his collaboration with Nike by unveiling the designs that were brought to us by 3 Black women. What’s more? These sneakers had been unveiled at the Harlem Fashion Row (HFR) – which is an annually held fashion award show that celebrates and empowers minority designers. Read more here.
5. A Teenager Wins a Writing Award That Was Won By Capote, Stephen Kind, and Other Famous Writers
Malachi Jones was just 17 when he was awarded with the Gold Medal Portfolio. This is the highest honor from among the Scholastic Art and Writing category and was previously won by people like Joyce Carol Oates, Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, and Stephen King!
