*Sean “Diddy” Combs, the music mogul and entrepreneur, is now facing a federal criminal investigation in the Southern District of New York, according to two sources familiar with his ongoing legal troubles. Last week, Combs’ legal team was informed by federal authorities that he is a subject in the investigation.
Sources have revealed that evidence is being presented to a federal grand jury, although there is no indication that charges are imminent. Being a “subject” in an investigation means that Combs is within the scope of the investigation, but he has not been designated as a “target,” a term used to describe individuals who prosecutors intend to indict.
Both a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s Office and Combs’ lawyers have declined to comment on the matter, according to NBC News.
In a further blow to Combs, Adria English, a former adult film actor who claims to have worked for him between 2004 and 2009, has filed a lawsuit accusing him of sex trafficking and sexual assault. The 114-page complaint alleges that Combs and other defendants treated English as a “sexual pawn for the pleasure and financial benefit of others” during his notorious “White Parties” in the Hamptons and Miami. The lawsuit also claims that Combs coerced English into prostitution and sex work from 2006 to 2009.
English’s lawsuit is the ninth legal action Combs has faced since last November, with eight of these lawsuits accusing him directly of sexual assault. Although Combs has settled one of the cases brought by former girlfriend Cassie Ventura, other suits remain unresolved, including one that names his son, Christian Combs, and implicates Sean Combs in aiding and abetting.
Jonathan Davis, an attorney for Combs, refuted the latest allegations, stating, “No matter how many lawsuits are filed, it won’t change the fact that Mr. Combs has never sexually assaulted or sex trafficked anyone. We live in a world where anyone can file a lawsuit for any reason and without any proof. Fortunately, a fair and impartial judicial process exists to find the truth and Mr. Combs is confident he will prevail against these and other baseless claims in court.”
The lawsuit filed by English demands a jury trial and seeks an unspecified amount in punitive damages. It adds another layer of complexity to Combs’ already complicated legal scenario.
Combs has consistently denied the accusations from many of these civil suits. In December 2023, following the filing of four lawsuits against him, Combs publicly refuted the allegations, calling them “sickening” and attributing them to accusers “looking for a quick payday.” He posted on social media, stating, “Let me be absolutely clear: I did not do any of the awful things being alleged.”

As the investigation and lawsuits progress, the spotlight remains firmly on Combs, waiting to see how these legal challenges will unfold and affect his career and public image.
