*Sean Combs a/k/a Diddy has recently leveled serious accusations against federal agents, claiming that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was behind the leaking of a damaging 2016 video that captured him assaulting his former girlfriend, Cassie Ventura.
The allegation arises amid his ongoing legal struggles, where he faces severe charges including sex trafficking and racketeering.
In a court filing on Wednesday, Combs’ legal team detailed claims that DHS agents have been conspiring against him for seven months leading up to his explosive indictment.
The video, which showed a towel-clad Combs attacking Ventura in a hotel hallway at the InterContinental Hotel in Century City, Los Angeles, found its way to CNN in May, causing an uproar in the media and public alike.
The recording has significantly damaged Combs’ reputation and cast doubt on his chances of mounting a successful defense against the numerous allegations he faces, the NY Post reports.

The defense lawyers, Marc Agnifilo and Teny Geragos argue that the leaked footage was solely meant to jeopardize Combs’ standing in his legal battles.
“The videotape was leaked to CNN for one reason alone: to mortally wound the reputation and the prospect of Sean Combs successfully defending himself against these allegations,” they maintained in the filing.
In November of the previous year, Ventura took legal action against Combs before the two reconciled quickly, settling just one day later. However, the recent accusations against Combs paint a picture of a man who has allegedly abused women and used his music label as a front for criminal activities spanning more than ten years. Combs has pleaded not guilty to all charges and currently remains in federal detention as his attorneys work diligently to secure his release in anticipation of a high-profile trial.
The allegations extend beyond the leaking of the video, with Combs’ legal team asserting that federal authorities have also provided misleading statements to news outlets and illicitly spread grand jury materials, including the contentious clip. They have made it clear that their ire is directed toward the DHS, not the Manhattan US Attorney’s Office, amid a backdrop of heavy media scrutiny.
In what has been referred to as “brutal” treatment, the search of Combs’ homes in Los Angeles and Miami resulted in visible distress, especially for his family; DHS agents allegedly handcuffed two of Combs’ sons in front of the press during the incident that took place in March, drawing considerable media attention.
In light of these allegations, Combs’ legal representation is calling for an evidentiary hearing to investigate the purported misconduct further, which could lead to suppressing vital evidence—including the damaging 2016 video—and potentially dismissing the entire case if warranted.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time accusations regarding leaks have surfaced; New York City Mayor Eric Adams has also alleged government leaks of grand jury materials in his own criminal case, indicating a wider pattern of perceived misconduct by federal authorities.
As the case against Sean Combs continues to unravel, the implications of the leaked footage, ongoing legal battles, and the broader issues surrounding governmental transparency and conduct will undoubtedly be focal points in the months ahead.
