*Producers Tyler Perry and DeVon Franklin have teamed up for the Netflix debut of Ruth and Boaz starring Serayah and Tyler Lepley. Based on the biblical book where Ruth is a Moabite widow who chooses loyalty to her mother-in-law Naomi and faith in Israel’s God. In Bethlehem, she gleans in Boaz’s fields, who shows her kindness. Their marriage redeems Naomi’s family line, and their son Obed becomes grandfather to King David—showing God’s providence, loyalty, and redemption through ordinary lives.
The Neflix version of Ruth and Boaz written by Michael Elliot and Cory Tynan is a modernized version of love lost and found. The movie stars Phylicia Rashard as the imitable Naomi, strong and worn by the years but life’s twists and turns force a kinship between her and Ruth, a young aspiring singer who ends up working in the vineyards in rural Tennessee.
The chemistry among the cast is heavenly. Boaz is the strong yet single man who has been so driven by his purpose that he has not found true love. Though smitten by Ruth’s beauty, it is her heart for service that draws him in. The timeless inspiration of the story is not lost in translation. In fact, the Netflix depiction makes the story even more relatable to audiences whether or not they are familiar with the biblical text.
Devon Franklin is elated over his partnership with Tyler Perry, and they are expecting this film to spearhead a string of faith-based family friendly films for their Netflix Partnership.
