*Russell Wilson is moving closer to a new career direction off the field, with the veteran quarterback finalizing a deal to become a CBS Sports analyst, according to sources cited by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The agreement would place Wilson on CBS’s NFL pregame studio show, which features a lineup that includes James Brown, Nate Burleson, and Bill Cowher. His addition would bring another high-profile former quarterback into the network’s broadcast team.
Wilson, a 10-time Pro Bowl selection, has built a career that includes a Super Bowl championship and the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. Since entering the league in 2012, he has also ranked among the most productive passers of his era in terms of passing touchdowns.
While the CBS deal moves forward, Wilson had other possibilities on the table. One option included an offer from the New York Jets to serve as a backup quarterback to Geno Smith. Despite that opportunity, Wilson told the New York Post that he was considering a move into broadcasting with CBS Sports.

“It was great,” Wilson told the publication at BTIG Charity Day in New York. “They offered me, and I’m trying to figure out what the next best thing is for me to do. I still know I can play ball at a high level, but I also have the opportunity to do TV, so we’ll see what happens.”
It remains unclear whether Wilson is officially retiring from professional football or simply stepping away from playing for now. That uncertainty leaves open the question of whether he could return to the field in the future.
Wilson would be stepping into a role previously held by former quarterback Matt Ryan, who left CBS Sports earlier this year. Ryan departed the network to become president of football operations for the Atlanta Falcons.
