*World-renowned figure skater Rory Flack is balancing the responsibilities of starring on a reality TV show with coaching young ice skaters.
Flack is the first African American woman to win the US Open Professional Figure Skating Championships. She currently stars in WEtv’s “Breaking The Ice” series, which sees Flack spearheading Team DMV, the first all-diverse, competitive synchronized skating team striving to make it to the Ice Sports Industry’s (ISI) national championship, per a news release.
“The team is comprised of 10 middle and high school girls who are up for this challenge. Together, they endure rigorous training on and off the ice, and must manage team dynamics, as well as outspoken parents and skating rivals,” the synopsis continues. “On their way to Nationals, Team DMV is defying the odds: will they navigate the inherent danger of the ice and avoid injury? Or push through the obstacles…ultimately, Breaking The Ice!”
As we reported previously, Flack told People her all-girl skating team immediately clicked when they met for the first time.

“The quickest bonding was the color of their skin,” said Flack. “When they all got there, they were so excited to meet these other girls that they didn’t even know. Some were from Maryland, some were from Virginia, some were from D.C.”
She added, “The first month of practice was off-ice, but they really had to bond, and you can’t bond when you’re worrying about your skill. Because of that, there was no competition [among them] on a skill level when we started.”
