*Joy Reid served as the keynote speaker during the virtual D9 Situation Room: Council of Presidents Town Hall, where leaders from all nine historically Black Greek-letter organizations came together for the Feb. 25 event.
As a member of the Divine 9, Reid delivered a powerful speech on fighting misinformation. The non-partisan event attracted over 24,000 registrants. More than 10,000 participants engaged in the live chat, demonstrating strong interest from members, All Hip Hop reports.
“We are living in an age of disinformation,” the former host of MSNBC’s The ReidOut told attendees. “It is so important that we look for trusted sources of information… One of the reasons we did The ReidOut was to distill all of the noise and understand what is actually factual and true.”
Reid emphasized the risks of misinformation, especially within Black communities. She encouraged attendees to trust mainstream liberal news outlets like The New York Times, Reuters, BBC, and The Associated Press instead of relying on alternative sources and social media for information.
“No one sorority or fraternity can do all this work alone,” one D9 president during the panel discussion. “Partner with another D9 organization in your community so that your voices and your work are amplified.”

Meanwhile, former MSNBC host Tiffany Cross blasted the network for firing Reid and urged black viewers to boycott the Comcast-owned channel.
“Don’t watch where you’re not welcome! Don’t shop where they won’t hire you! The same thing they say. Don’t even hate-watch!” Cross told the “Win With Black Women” podcast, as reported by Mediaite.
Cross believes MSNBC management will start making up reasons to criticize Reid and justify dumping her show.
“So brace yourself because y’all are going to hear the things and they don’t try to say some things because when movement happens, they don’t know how black women move!” Cross said, comparing higher-ups at the network to “colonizers.”
Cross rejected claims that MSNBC curbed Reid due to low ratings.
“Don’t believe the hype about the ratings. Her show was doing very well,” Cross said.
“You know whose ratings ain’t doing well? Who ain’t never got fired? Morning Joe, Joe Scarborough. They went to kiss the ring and they are still being elevated,” she added.
