*In a candid conversation on their podcast, Tea Time with Raven & Miranda, Raven-Symoné and her wife Miranda revealed how their decision to sleep in separate beds has positively impacted their relationship.
When they moved into their new home, the challenge of matching their interior design preferences became evident. Their differing styles highlighted a deeper need for personal space. Miranda shared that their sleep habits didn’t align well, prompting her to propose the idea of separate bedrooms.
“We function better in separate spaces,” she explained, adding that especially when it came to sleeping, the arrangement made sense. Raven agreed and added, “Not all the time, but especially when it comes to sleep.”
Miranda revealed that Raven’s unpredictable sleep behavior, including her habit of switching positions throughout the night, led to some humorous and frustrating situations. “You are such a sporadic, bizarre sleeper,” Miranda commented, remembering the times when she woke up to Raven’s “ass in her face” or found herself rolling over onto her. “I was like, ‘We should have separate bedrooms, then we could each decorate our rooms the way we want,’” Miranda said.

The couple now enjoys a more flexible arrangement, where they can still connect without disrupting each other’s rest.
“We do what we need to,” said Raven. “I believe in ‘absence makes the heart grow fonder.’ We work together, we live together, we eat together, we cook together, we drive together…it’s like, I’m going to have a little time to myself, and I think that it’s actually helping.”
The couple also reflected on societal pressures that often lead people to believe that traditional norms, like sharing a bed, are essential for love. Miranda revealed how external influences, from social media to parental expectations, led her to initially view separate sleeping arrangements as a potential red flag. However, she now embraces the arrangement, realizing that intimacy doesn’t always fit conventional molds.
