*Hall of Fame wide receiver Randy Moss opened up about his recent battle with cancer during an emotional Instagram livestream on Friday. In a candid declaration, Moss proclaimed, “Your boy is a cancer survivor,” as he shared the news of his recovery after spending six days in the hospital.
The former NFL superstar expressed profound gratitude toward the medical staff and his supportive fan base, stating, “Thanks God! I just got out today.”
During the livestream, Moss conveyed appreciation for the outpouring of support he received from fans, teammates, and “prayer warriors.” He acknowledged the power of their well-wishes and prayers, saying, “I felt all the prayers coming through there.” The iconic athlete confirmed his intent to return to ESPN’s “Sunday NFL Countdown” as soon as his health allows.
Moss provided insight into the specifics of his condition, revealing that cancer was found in the bile duct, located between the pancreas and the liver. He underwent a six-hour surgery performed by Dr. Martini, referring to the procedure as a Whipple surgery. “I am forever grateful,” he remarked, emphasizing his relief and determination to move forward.

While Moss did not take questions during the live stream, he appeared to address misinformation circulating about his health, particularly comments made by Larry Fitzgerald Sr. and former NFL quarterback Brett Favre regarding his father’s diagnosis.
“There were a few people out here trying to be doctors that weren’t doctors,” Moss said pointedly, indicating he felt the need to clarify his situation.
Before stepping away from his role as an ESPN analyst, Moss had hinted at his health struggles during a broadcast on December 1. He asked fans to pray for him and his family, stating, “If you see me with these [sunglasses] on… I’m battling something, man, and it’s something internal.” He urged men to prioritize their health by insisting they get regular checkups and bloodwork done.
ESPN has since announced their full support for Moss, saying they look forward to welcoming him back when he is ready. In a heartfelt message to his followers, Moss emphasized the importance of health awareness with a caption that read, “Go get ur checkups!! Prayer Warriors I need u,” accompanied by four prayer emojis.
Randy Moss’s bravery in sharing his health journey not only serves as an inspiration but also highlights the critical importance of health checks and support during challenging times.
