Ray J (real name William Ray Norwood Jr.) was arrested early Thursday morning (around 4 a.m. PT) at his home in Porter Ranch, California, and charged with making criminal threats.
The arrest came after a chaotic livestream on his Twitch channel showed the R&B singer allegedly brandishing a loaded handgun during a heated confrontation with Princess Love, her cousin, and her cousin’s husband — all while their two children, Melody (7) and Epik (5), were present and visibly distressed.
According to law enforcement reports, the incident stemmed from a custody-related dispute that escalated dramatically on camera. Ray J’s bail was set at $50,000. His Twitch channel has since been permanently banned due to the firearm policy violation.
Shortly after news of the arrest broke, Princess Love, 41, posted an emotional video to Instagram titled “Enough is enough,” delivering a raw and blistering statement on the years of dysfunction she says she’s endured.
“I love my kids, and I would never do anything that would put them in danger — including leaving them with a man who’s waving a gun around,” she said in the three-minute video, which has now been viewed more than 260,000 times on X (formerly Twitter).
She then revealed a disturbing prior incident that she claims pushed her to stop allowing unsupervised visits.
“The last time I left my kids with him alone, they walked in on him naked in bed with another woman.”
Princess went on to criticize Ray J’s behavior over the years, accusing him of emotional abuse, denial, and deflection.
“When I tried to ask you about it, you told me to f*** myself… So take accountability, right? Do better.”
The video, a mix of anger and heartbreak, ended with Princess choking back tears:
“All I wanted was a good Thanksgiving… but you ruined it.”
She also directly addressed Ray J’s mental state, urging him to seek treatment:
“Check yourself into rehab because you’re more than drunk. You’re not about to sit here and try to make me look crazy.”
What Happened on the Livestream?
Ray J began streaming late Wednesday night/early Thursday morning on Twitch, complaining about a “f***ed up Thanksgiving” and accusing Princess of trying to “take my kid away.” During the broadcast, Princess and her relatives reportedly arrived to pick up the children — a visit Ray J described as “unannounced,” though Princess later said he had been told they were coming.
The confrontation spiraled quickly. Ray J could be seen loading a gun while shouting at the cousin’s husband, at one point allegedly yelling:
“I’ll kill you… Get out before I shoot you right now.”
Police arrived minutes later. Princess had reportedly called 911 after the confrontation escalated and said she feared for the children’s safety. Ray J was arrested without incident. Twitch has since scrubbed the original stream, but clips remain circulating on social media.
History of a Tumultuous Relationship
Ray J and Princess Love married in 2016 and have had a volatile relationship, much of it televised on Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood. They have filed for divorce four times, most recently in early 2024, citing irreconcilable differences. Though reconciliations followed previous filings, sources close to the couple say this latest incident could mark a final split.
Ray J has a history of public outbursts and controversial behavior. While some fans have previously criticized Princess for staying in the relationship, public sentiment online has largely shifted in her favor following the Thanksgiving incident.
A top reply on X summed up the mood:
“Heartbreaking escalation from their on-again-off-again mess. Hoping they both prioritize healing for those little ones.”
What’s Next?
Even though his legal team reportedly advised him not to make any public statements about the event until after his arraignment, Ray J went ahead and did what Ray J does. He spoke out via video. Watch it immediately above.
Princess, meanwhile, appears to be done protecting him publicly. Her Instagram post concludes with a plea for peace and safety, not just for herself, but for her children.
No restraining order has yet been filed, but legal experts say one could follow if prosecutors pursue the criminal threat charge further.
