*Before Prince was rocking an afro at appearances today, he had a bigger one as a teenager growing up in the 1970s. The throwback photo of the star (no. 3 on the far right) was found by a reporter at the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.
Libor Jany found the photo taken from Bryant Junior High School yearbook of the pop icon at the newspaper’s library, which was part of a multi-day series, which led up to the premiere of “Purple Rain” in July 1984.
He tweeted, “Another Prince-related clip from the Strib archives, looking back at his hooping days at Bryant Junior High.”
“Prince was an excellent player; he was like the sixth or seventh man,” Richard Robinson, his coach at Minneapolis’ Central High School, told the Star-Tribune in the newspaper clipping.
But he didn’t want to be the sixth or seventh man though, according to Robinson. “He was unhappy and he expressed that many, many times.”
